At some point in our life and usually as we enter middle age, (whenever that is), we are encouraged to ‘get our affairs in order’ and make sure we have a Will and that it’s valid and up to date.
Whilst this is important, I’m told it’s a logistical and legal pain in the neck to die intestate, it’s also a timely reminder that a Will only looks after the physical assets we accumulate.
Do these things even matter if the person was an ass?
Now a legacy. That’s something else entirely! 😊
Sharing what you have learned vs what you have earned
Bequeathing values vs valuables and
putting a stamp on the future and making positive contributions to the next generation,
– that’s something exciting to leave behind!
When all is said and done, we are ONLY remembered for the difference we made and how we made people feel.
It is said, “There are people who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who wonder what happened?”
We all fall into one of these groups and bounce between them at different points in time.
Normal people dream about things being different. They hope the world will become a better place and they wish things were better than they are.
Then there are the other people. Perhaps you have heard them called the ‘successful’ people or the ‘lucky’ ones. (Personally, I think success is defined by each of us individually according to our own values. I also believe we create our own luck.)
The other people make things happen. They still get rejected but they pick the ‘NO’s’ that are acceptable to them just like they pick their battles.
Other people are still boo’ed, criticized, and gossiped about, but they are not deterred by the nay-sayers. In fact, they are encouraged by their negativity.
There is a certain satisfaction in
they told you you couldn’t do.
Other people are so driven by their WHY, that their passion steadily grows and is fuelled by their dreams and their desire to make a difference. They are determined to take action and to make their time count.
Other people are the ones that leave their mark on the world. They attract those that are like-minded with their energy, courage, and persistence and encourage a gathering.
Courage is not the absence of fear,
it is action in spite of the fear.
You might ask, what makes these other people different from normal people?
I believe we all come into the world with ‘choice’. We cannot choose the circumstances we are born into, (although I also believe we do this before we come here, but that’s another post), but we CAN choose how we respond to what life throws at us.
10% of life is what happens to us,
90% of life is how we respond to it.
I have learned that conditions are rarely perfect and if you sit waiting for all the ducks to line up, you will never get going.
We don’t know how much time we are given and with each new day we use up another precious 24hr of what we have left.
Sometimes not having a deadline breeds procrastination, paralysis by analysis, and an attitude of complacency that can last for hours, days, weeks, or years.
So here it is.
This is your deadline.
You won’t be here forever.
One day your time will be up.
Are you willing to let another day go by, continuing to wait for perfect conditions to choose how you will be remembered?
Or do you think you should make a start today?
Don’t wait for things to happen, choose to be one of the other people now and set yourself apart from the crowd. You absolutely CAN do this. You CAN make it happen!
“Desire is a powerful force and can be used to make things happen.
Yet do not confuse desire with expectation or need.
Desire has an entirely different quality to it.
You can desire something without needing or requiring it.
To desire propels. To require compels.
Life will not be compelled, but it can be coaxed.”
